We ended up with a dog.

This past weekend, we decided to get a puppy for my 9yr old (for her Birthday) as that has been a request from her for a few years.
We couldn't surprise her with the dog (Bosco) as it was an adoption process and they wanted to meet the whole family.

Being a 12 week puppy, guess who has to potty train it (almost every 2 hrs.) and worst of all during the night (definitely something I didn't bargain for) as I do like my sleep . However, Bosco's a very playful, friendly, and an intelligent dog.....he's learnt to do his job and is picking up things quickly. Most of all, Bosco has made (almost) all my children very happy......my 3yr old girl enjoys him most when he's out of the house and even locks everyone out from the patio door.

The only pics I have of him are from the adoption website:  http://floridalittledogrescue.com/adoptable_dogs

I'm hoping Bosco will start sleeping longer at night and I can get back to my sleeping routine soon......makes it tough when you have tracks to finish up.

Oh wow, that is an adorable little fella.  Labs are so awesome.  Not sure how the mix will work out, but he sure looks like a lot of fun, and totally lovable.

Yeah Tim, he's really a cute little puppy and needs a lot of attention (which he gets more than he might care for). We were planning on getting a "mid-size" dog (as an inside dog), but this mix might end up him being an outside dog (depending on how big he gets).
It's just priceless to see the little ones play with him/running around etc.......Bosco has definitely changed our normal routines. I hope he becomes a good loyal guard dog.

My yellow lab Elvis is close to 9 now. You and your family are in for a real adventure for the next few years. Lots of energy and mischief. Get him started with chew toys right a way. I also recommend a dog crate for him to sleep in and stay in while he's home alone. Get a big one and put a nice soft blanket or kennel pad for him to lay on.

We learned this lesson the hard way. Elvis chewed the legs off of 4 Cherry dining set chairs, multiple shoes, and as I related here a few years back, figured out how to open the pantry doors. He ate 4 shelves of food. 1 pound of brown sugar, a box of powdered sugar, multiple packages of pasta, croutons, rice, pudding, jello, etc.

She he must be obeyed texted me pics of the carnage and stated "Dont come home without 1) a crate for this @#$^%# dog, or 2) a truck big enough to move all your *(*&%&% and your dog out of this house.

He actually loves his crate. He rests in there even when we are home.

Good luck and enjoy the love this dog will give you and your family.

My go to response when people ask me how I'm doing is "Just trying to be the man my dog thinks I am".

Lol Randy on that last line.

Regarding the crate, chew toys, and kennel pad......those were the first things we got (so whew, glad to see we're going in the right direction). The first night he complained a little bit, but I had him by my bedside and he understood "Shhhhuusssshh".
We've also been keeping the crate open during the day while letting him go in/out as he pleases and don't make it a 'bad place' for him, but rather make it a positive thing.....he's liking being in it so far. Yeah, he's looking to bite everything in site, but enjoys his chew toys/bones etc...

Nice rescue!  As for the potential chewing, you can get Bitter Apple spray and use it on things you care about.  That should help direct him to only chew on things you want him to chew on!

50 pounds they project?  Methinks he'll be a bit more!

I'm also thinking he'll be much heavier than that. Although there's at least 3-4 pairs of eyes on him at all times, will check out the Bitter Apple spray. He seems to even likes our ankles (without any prior knowledge of Becan around).

XX is always wanting another dog. I tell her that 3 is plenty and I can't get around like I used to. She's eyeing a black Lab puppy now but so far hasn't come home with it
