From a military perspective, wounding an enemy rather than killing him outright presents a tactical advantage. Besides, what's to keep a member of the military from committing mass murder? Nothing. Remember Nadal Hassan?

Notwithstanding that my hunting rifle was originally designed for the military. So was my single-shot black powder muzzle-loader. There's those pesky facts again.

What puzzles me is why so many people want to put such an inordinate focus on inanimate objects instead of dealing with the bad actors who misuse them. Again, facts show ( I can't remember the numbers) that there are more firearms here in the US in private hands than there are people and only a tiny fraction of them are ever used in any crime at all.

To make this thread music related, I'll quote Ted Nugent, who once remarked"if guns kill people, then all mine are defective."

Anything can be used as a murder weapon. Hell, the #1 murder weapon in the world is the human hand. Evil people are going to do evil things and no amount of legislation that only serves to punish the law-abiding is going to change that.

Recent events in the UK have them talking about acid control. They already have knife control. Where does it end? Do we end up tightly regulating, or even banning altogether, everything? Is that even possible?

Despite some people"s Utopian fantasies to the contrare, we can"t legislate and regulate evil, danger and risk out of existence.

Okay. We get it. You like guns.

Time to move on. This has gone waaaay over the TOS threshold as it is and although I (and I'm sure many others) could indeed dissect the arguments being made here it would just further the TOS poopage.

Something horrendous has happened. Let's not burn down the CH over it.

I don't like weapons in general.  I wish we all lived in a world where nobody harmed anybody.

I pray for all the souls who lost their lives in this horrible attack.  I pray for their families.  I pray for their friends and loved ones.

My friend was there!  My buddy who used to play drums for me was working at that concert.  That poor guy is from New Orleans.  He lived through Katrina, he lived that concert.

I was in New York on September 11th.  I was in New York during the 1990s riots.  I was living down the street in the 1980s on east 38th when the Cuban Mission was bombed.  I was in London just after the terrorist bombings about 10 - 12 years ago.

But about the Twin Towers?  I grew up in those buildings.  BOTH my parents worked on Wall Street.  I was in and out of those Towers my whole life.

Nothing though, is as scary and heart wrenching as what those people in Vegas went through.  A piece of **** coward firing automatic weaponry into an unarmed crowd.  Very reminiscent to Hitler's SS.

Until all evil is banished, weapons will exist, evil will acquire weapons.

I honestly don't know what the answer is.

I know there is plenty of, "crack control, meth control, opiate and heroin control," people who want drugs still get drugs.   People who want guns, still get guns.

Prayers for the victims of Vegas.

Great idea. A horrible person did a horrible thing. And he did it at a concert, which makes it music related. Kind of.

Whetter or not anyone likes or dislikes guns isn't going to bring anyone back. I didn't mean to get sucked into a gun control debate; I meant to express my amazement at observing how some people want to blame inanimate objects for criminal acts instead of blaming the criminals.

Was that directed at me?  Calm down buddy.

Anyways, I definitely blame the criminal.  I want to know what was up with this girlfriend of his.  Why is shy running around the Philippines with $100k that this guy sent to her.   She is totally involved.  I believe we will eventually find out this was definitely some sort of terrorism.
