This is the dialect for Brixham, in Devon UK. Most local people will struggle to understand parts of this today.
 
The recording was lost but recently we found the cassette. It was transferred from a BBC disc to a cassette back in the 1980's This is was taken from a copy of that cassette. I have done my best to clean it up with iZotope RX and EQ.

Well I have some ideas (music and lyrics) for a piece about his father who was killed in a collision at sea in 1881, widowing my Great Great Grandmother for a second time and also taking her eldest son, called "The Sly Boots Incident" after their trawler but its slow taking shape.

Mmm, I had not thought that, but I am familiar with the accent, and even have a touch of it myself.
 
When I hear the Newfoundland accent there is a connection for sure.

Probably common among many an ol' seafarin' European of times past, ey rekkon. Tho it be highly unlikely real pirates spoke that way. Ye can thank ol' Disney far foolin' us on that one, and many other historically romanticized myths we no take fer granted.
