Love this song Laura, and the slightly hushed delivery works perfectly. Do you play out? I could imagine your music going down very well in a small club environment.

I'd get some variety on that snare pattern, and bring the bass up a ton so it can counterpoint things.

Now the good stuff - it's a great song with great lyrics, very cleanly sung, vocals at once hushed yet out front - simply superb mixing there! And your chord changes are inventive in a genius-like manner. Which would be enough, but you add such awesomely idiosyncratic melodies to them, and then the sublime vocal phrasing.

Each listener wants something different but I'm finding I'd like your rhythm section work to come up to the same level as the rest of it. Not too flashy, just more in keeping with the overall genius tone! Right now, for me at least,  your incredible originality is being supported by a drum machine, like a QY-20 or an Alesis SR-16, with one pattern employed.

If you were a band, I'd fire your drummer, cut the bass player's pay in half, and take you directly to Hollywood or Nashville or New York, which I think is where you are already, so nevermind.  :)

So that's just my .02 but thanks so much for sharing and do keep it up! Really great songs!

Leave it alone.... I love it just the way it is, The lyrics are excellent and that's what I was listening to all the way and the little fills where brilliant. Excellent use of instruments and for once I like the drum sequencing and tone of the kit is perfect for this style. I'll even forgive you for going overtime ( 3:20 Standard ) as it never lost my interest.

jamesg1213 Thank you very much for listening to the song and for your kind commentary.

No, I don't play out. I wouldn't know how to go about it, and I'm sure nobody would want to hear me. You're (this forum) the only people who've ever been subjected to my nonsense. Most of my family have never heard me play a song. And I guess they're showing their good taste! :) So, heaven forbid I should ask strangers to listen. It's a lost cause. But something made me start posting here. Maybe so I can think I did something in my life. Ha!

good is good laura.  It don't matter if you're a pimply teen ager or a middle aged amateur.  I'm not one of those who think all expression is necessarily good.  There's definitely good, better, best (and the other direction).  Your stuff is very, very good.  In a town like Portland, Austin, Nashville you might actually be able to have a career.  :D:D

You're blessed with a unique voice and you know how to use it. I really enjoy your music, the kind of story telling technique you have with the little pauses here and there. I wish you the success you deserve.
