question...  I have a bunch of presets I saved inside each synth... i plan on moving to a new computer... is there anyway to backup all the synth presets so they transfer to the new computer?

Presets should be backed up in a configuration file.  Find the file and you should be able to drag it to a flash drive to use in on another computer.  But then again you can just save the session and open it on the new computer,  the settings will be saved as well.

I usually start with a blank slate on my plugins. But since I work on location recording classical music, sometimes presets are usefull for duplicating multiple sessions using identical setups and instruments.  For instance, I recently recorded a pianist on four different dates, in the same room, with the same miking setup.  I created a preset from the first session on the EQ and the reverb and used that for a subsequent sessions to obtain an identical sound.   I will say, unless you are working with familiar and predictable source material, preset are never reliable without tweaking.

It depends on how you are saving the presets.  There are up to 3 different ways.  1) A lot of synths will have their own preset file organization - this is the best for portability. You just have to find out what folder the presets are in - that's sometimes the hard part.  Back that folder up and put contents on the new system.  2) There is the Sonar preset which is always in the upper right of the plug-in.  To me, this is the fastest way of sharing presets from project to project, but in terms of portability to another system - no - it is tricky  and 3) VST's also have the VST preset method which is yet another way of storing and revrieving presets.  For portability - stay with method #1
