Sorry folks.. The one time I was thrown in jail it was because of $35.00
That's why its such a joke to me. Doesn't seem so funny this morning.
Essentially in 2008 during the economic collapse I lost my job at Sky King Fireworks. That same week I had written a check for groceries at publix - that check bounced, the animal who managed that publix decided to send that check to the state attorneys office. I received a letter in the mail about some sort of diversion program. Because I was from New York City, I pretty much tossed the letter out with the trash thinking, "junk mail, $35.00 kiss my ass." A couple of months later two Port Saint Lucie Police officers dragged me off to Saint Lucie County Jail early in the morning.. I was still in my boxer shorts. Adjudication was withheld. I remain without a criminal conviction for the crime (ushering a false utterance less than $150)
Whenever I tell people the story I call it, "my six hours hard time. my moment in the slammer." It doesn't seem so funny to me this morning though
