I watched a documentary about that elephant doing the drawing. It was beaten every time it made a wrong mark on the paper until it learned to do the right ones.

Ugh. I just figured it was fake or they were just doing some kind of trunk guiding (or the old tug on the ear via a ring which aint cool either really) but beating the poor bugger until he/she learns it... I don't like that.

I was tempted to remove the gif due to jg's sad tale but I decided that if that poor elephant had to suffer for his her art then at least we can appreciate it.
 
They really are awesome creatures and I'd bet our talented friend there would have been more than happy to paint us a picture of him/herself without all the cruelty.
