  • Rock as Social Commentary- "Menace On The Loose," a video

I wrote this song in response to the plague of violence that has swept over our nation, and, indeed the entire world this past year. The mass shootings in San Bernardino and Orlando were bad enough.  But then we had police violence against civilians which touched off violent protests that culminated in the tragic death of innocent police officers in Dallas.  Overseas there were the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris and Nice.  I felt it was time to say something about it.  After the song was done, my friend Mikal Britt put together the video for me which now has over 11,000 views on YouTube!.  Warning: the video contains scenes of violence and is not suitable for children.
Bass- Ed (Bapu) Kocol
Bridge vocal- Elizabeth Greenway (a/k/a the current Mrs daryl1968)
Phil (philz) Doyle- All the other stuff

Hi Phil,

Certainly gets the message across. I watched the video and I think, for most of us adults at least, we're kind of numb to the footage within it. Like your song says, it's in the news... nearly every day.

On a lighter note, top performance by all, as expected, and also expected is the polished end result.

I think the SoundCloud version was a bit "brighter," so that must be something to do with the different encoding methods between SC and the video.

cheers

Man, Phil, very powerful stuff.
The vid is very well done and a bit disturbing, but sadly not as much as it probably would be if we weren't getting used to hearing about and seeing this kind of stuff.
The song itself is great, says just what it needs to. I loved the line "flowers in the street and blood in the Seine"
Reminds me, particularly the way you sing the first verse, of a Leonard Cohen song, and I'm a big fan of his work. And of yours.
Great job by all involved.

Thanks Andy- Yeah, regrettably the compression ate into the fidelity a little bit.  Such are the perils of YouTube.

Track sounds great. I think your song, as a concept song, worked really well. Nice job!

Very nice...   Arrangement sounds good, as does the mix.   And the trade-off between vocal style plays out the difference in feel between lyrics really well.

Excellent number Phil and very poignant.  Your lyrics certainly make the point and the way the vocals are arranged really brings some emotion to the song.  Of course the video, accentuates the music and lyrics very well.  This was also very impressive from a technical standpoint (mix, performance, video-music match, etc.).

"We all live in the same house..." and the message you are relaying needs to be echoed around the world!
