I've been a vegetarian since I was about 15. It was at about that time that I started getting out of sync with family meals and cooking for myself, and I found that I just didn't have any motivation to cook myself meat. So I thought I might as well give it up entirely. Now I don't even perceive it as food, strangely enough. And I've never eaten fish, not even as a kid. Would refuse the stuff on the grounds of the rotten smell. I don't eat dairy either, although I love eggs so I'm not a vegan. Maybe an eggan.
I've never liked that textured vegetable protein either and I won't eat soy in general. Nor tofu or quorn. Nasty stuff. So I get my protein from vital wheat gluten, legumes, nuts, various non-dairy protein bars (RX bars are my favorite, they have egg whites), vegan protein powders and free form amino acids. I've had no trouble getting "buff" during the times when I've been religious about hitting the gym either. I think loads of guys eat WAY too much protein on the basis that there's no other way to build muscle than to cram 120g a day into their gobs. It harms your organs and encourages the development of cancer.
