thanks guys!  I think I will probably go with the camera system.  good info!

bit - I tend to miss the doorbell even without headphones!  ;-)

get a wireless system with 4 cameras.... use as many as you need in the studio rooms.... and put one near the front door and another on the driveway if you have 2 spares.... with them on the screen in a quad display, you will see the UPS driver pulling in and see him at the door.

Studio windows are installed non-parallel & angled to cut down reflections from lighting so you can see through the window clearly.

I am considering building a control room window between the two rooms and possibly a small window from the "control room" to the iso booth. 

why not put camera inside the room and you'll have "control window/cam" at no cost.

did you read any of the posts in this thread??

Studios with a camera ans a screen seem to be the new norm over the windows in control rooms.
