I've formulated a recipe of composing that suits me.
 
It's a bit like slapping paint on a canvas and then putting things into shape with a palette knife.
 
Well I did something similar with this track: I laid down a chord sequence, chucked down a rough tune, then refined it til i got something half decent - well, you're the judge as to sound decency :)

That's a really nice piece of music you put together there, Ireno.  It has a nice groove and moves right along.  Your keyboard work is enviable.

I listened on small speakers but the bass came right out. That's a good sign. Nice mellow piece with a good bit of drive. I could see this on both an Al Stewart album, and a Joe Walsh album. How's that for a weird compliment?
 
You are going to get people asking you for vocals, and although it's plenty chill as just an instrumental, let me be the first.
 
the only crit for my ears would be the slidey "hi-hat" or casaba shaker thing? on 2,3,4 of every measure - it got a little samey, maybe drop it in volume or vary it a little?

Tom: Al Stewart and Joe Walsh - I never saw that coming but it's a compliment, especially Al Stewart whose album Year of the Cat was produced and engineered by the great Alan Parsons. Those professionals I have admired over the years - strange how these influences can seep out into one's own music subliminally at times.
 
Yes, I need to work more with vocalists. Also, I take heed of what you say on the hi-hat. Samey is okay in minimalism but not this type of music.

Wookie - just played the opening bar of Year of the Cat in my head: Wow, yes of course, it all fits into place. An obvious influence. Although different chords, a similar rhythm. Well spotted you and Tom.
 
Again, how interesting that we are, seemingly, unavoidably influenced by sounds from the past. Particularly early influences.
Perhaps this necessitates intransigence. Am i stuck in the past? Holding onto sounds like jewels to pass on to the next generation?
 
Perhaps and who cares. It's all good fun composing...
