Sorry, silly question, as theory is not my strong side.

I'm playing Chopin's etude. It has tempo marking of 176 for quarter note.
The song has mainly 16th notes.

I can set my metronome to tick 16th notes. 
Please, what would be correct tempo for 16th notes? 
Do I divide the 176 by two, or four?

No, you would multiply by 4 and you may not be able to go that high in tempo - 176 times 4 = 704.
