His website and Wiki are showing ''February 20, 1950 - September 3, 2017''.

Very sad, his and Donald's music filled our house when I was a kid and I still listen to Steely Dan regularly now. Some of his solo work is great.

I thought Walter Becker was the fictional character who cooked meth in a motorhome, so thanks for clearing that up. Now I am sad.

Very sad to hear that. I’ve loved Steely Dan ever since I first became aware of their music in the late seventies. The Royal Scam is still one of my all-time favourite albums.

Steely Dan sparked my interest in instruments- I remember asking my mom when Reelin in the Years came on what instruments they were playing. She didn't know. That was 72 or 73. That started a lifelong hobby for me. Ironically I just saw Donald Fagen last night at the Moody Theater in Austin. Awesome show with a young quintet. I was impressed. R.I.P. Walter Becker

I thought the same thing (Being in the coffeehouse, I was thinking up a tongue-in-cheek response.  Glad I wasn't the first to reply!  Gotta dig out one of my Best of Steely Dan CDs.  Think I'll put on the Live version).
