Saw SD live just once on the 'Two Against Nature' tour. My friend and I were luckily in our seats at 8pm, whereas half the audience was still outside or at the bars when they started the gig, and played for almost 3 hours. Wonderful night.

Walter Becker is a hero to me - I think he and Donald Fagen set a tone and standard in composing and recording  music that will be considered as setting a new milestone. I think I saw Steely Dan maybe 3-4 times and was lucky enough to see Donald Fagen and the Nightfly's a few weeks ago. Walter has 2 great solo albums as well, 11 Tracks of Whack  and Circus Money.

Was just having a listen to his solo albums now and I really like them. Perhaps not as immediately engaging as Steely Dan's stuff, and like Fagen's later work more groove-orientated than melody centered, but nonetheless very good songs. The production is of course sublime, and he's got a surprisingly good voice.

I think Steely Dan's later work is underrated too. Two Against Nature was a fabulous album - the writing and arranging is classic Steely Dan.

Almost Gothic is my favorite track on it. Really deserves some deep listening - the arrangement is beautiful. Where they come up with some of those chord voicings I have no idea...

I also like West Of Hollywood. Again, such great chords, and this one has an incredible sax solo in it which blows over some of the most engaging changes I've ever heard. Nice guitar playing by Becker as well.

Many sound guys still use Aja as their comparison when setting up a gig.

I thought that was Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly."

Becker has been one of my favorite musicians and song writer for a very long time time. Circus Money has been in regular rotation here since it came out in 2008, and my 21 year old daughter loves it too.
She called me yesterday when she heard the news.
He will be missed here for sure. RIP Walter Becker.

Deeply saddening.  Major loss.  Total bummer.

This is so so sad - Steely Dan - soundtrack from my youth. RIP Walter Becker.
