A real pleasure to listen. Well balanced and loud enough, clear separation of instruments. A pro mix. The suspence at 2:38 is fantastic.  The only thing that bothers me is the snare sound, like it does not match the rest of the kit.

Your mixes are such a treat to listen to.

When that guitar riff comes in around 2:24 - more balls on that please! Ditto for the guitar rhythm around 3:15. I know you have diversity of arrangement in mind, lots of dynamics, loud sections and then soft. It all sounds really good.

Do you hear this mix as slightly top heavy, slightly bright? Could the bottom end have more weight? I'm only asking, because you are a friggin' pro at this . . . and the turnip truck I fell off of left me in the road a long time ago.  :)

How are you liking/loving Keyscape? How did it show up here? I heard some chimey piano in the intro, anything else?

thanks Dan,

Cool tune Dan.  Great mix, IMO.

Thank you Bob! Took a bit of work to get this mix where I wanted it due to each section of the song having a different bass. It was like mixing three songs in one.

Beautiful mix, cool synth and guitar work. Like that a lot. Only the quantised drums come across quite lifeless and impassionate. That tune with a real drummer and bass player, that'll be really cool ... anyway, real drummers with superb timing usually don't live next door, so I discovered that working the tempo grid in creative ways can help a lot to make it feel more organic and surprisingly the drum libs cope quite well if you feed them a farily flexible (yet subtle) timing variation

Excellent stuff Dan, seriously

Very polished... Nice spectrum of sounds used throughout. Loved the lead synth sound

Composition of the song is really interesting.

Mix sounds really well balanced and I can pick up on everything that is going on.

Will this be going on an album at some point? Or are you continuing to build up a collection of singles at Bandcamp?

cheers

Excellent track Dan, always a pleasure to hear a new one from you. I admire the restraint in your pieces, nothing is over-played, everything serves the tune. It builds really well too, then releases tension beautifully at around 3.30, like that a lot. Great bass... Good title too, I could imagine of those scenes where the hero is preparing for the big showdown...

Thank you James! The entire time I was working on this, I had a noir scene in my head where a guy finds his murdered wife/girlfriend then goes on a tear to kill the murderer, but couldn't find a decent image to use as a song cover. Then I ran across this image of the girl walking away from something getting blown all to hell...

As for the bass, there were too many in use, and after the first mix, I realized that I'd messed up the intro section and had to add Taurus pedal bass to give it some weight. There is actually a synth bass playing along with Rick as well. It adds some nice glide movement to the bass line, but doesn't cover up the dirty Rick sound.

Awesome piece Dan ! Loved the smooth yet assertive flow of the track. The lead true to its name, led the track really well. I just thought that a few sounds/fills here and there felt slightly out of tune. But I guess that might have been deliberate for creative variation or probably just my ears

Nice mix Dan, everything present and in it own space.  Sweet use of dissonance in the backing.

Thanks Wookie! A happy accident on the dissonant piano. I liked it when it happened, so I kept it and built the lead around it.

Great work Dan.
I really like the tension in the buildup, made me feel like something big was about to happen, cool arrangement.
Mix is spot on powerful.
Thanks for sharing!

Dan the sound you get is one of the best I hear here on this board - just so pristene - the mix is just perfect. You're a great artist - enjoyed this thoroughly.
