when I red on this forum someone had 1139 plugins it seemed the right thing to do.

Beeps, our work PCs are sooo old they only have VGA connectors.
 
Except mine... it has a DVi and a VGA 
 
However, the DVi out doesn't work so I'm stuck with using only one monitor - hence my hope that the 'unknown' slot was some kind of monitor out.

perhaps a 'VGA multiplier' box wood be a solution.

Those were typically 15 pins. This is a 9 pin serial port.
