People screamed and dropped unconscious in the theaters over the terror of it. Nerves had never experienced a trauma like this. Now we are numb from the continuous overkill. Psycho blood and guts on TV just part of every day sense over-stimulation that is part of "normal" life.

The most famous example, still is ... the guy shooting the gun at the camera!
 
Surprisingly enough there is some of this stuff in film today, but we're not capable of watching it, and many folks still walk out. Though very hard to appreciate, and a very tough films to sit through, try Gaspar Noe's films.
 
All in all, if violent/horror films took a cue from Noe, many of us would never watch them again!

She did Golden Eye, Tomorrow Never Dies , The World is Not Enough , Die Another Day , Casino Royal , Quantum of Solace , Skyfall, and a Cameo in  Spectre ...  She also , also appeared in six James Bond video games:
 
TV ? huh ...Man that's a long time to have to wait to see a Bond Movie
