Here you go... I called it Wicked.
https://soundcloud.com/paul-graves-1/wicked
I started this practicing 4 on the floor drum beats played live on the kit while the ladies were going to see Wicked the play.  After some time sitting on it, I've arranged and completed the extra parts this weekend.
Lots of Rapture and samples + live recorded bass, guitar and drums.
The little A major part in the middle was where it started, almost earning the name Happy Dance, but I figured the original file name was good enough.

That's really fun.  Well crafted piece.

Sounds like you worked hard on the composition.  For me the drums sound like they have to much reverb and the kick is getting lost in the mix, possibly because of that reverb.  Some nice bass sounds and licks.  Thanks for sharing.

Thanks man!

I was listening the hell out of this today in the car with the super sub, the low end is a bit sloppy sometimes and I agree the kick ends up lost in parts of the track.

I think that's a case of too many layers at times.  My timing isn't super awesome on the acoustic kick, so it's causing some phasing issues against the sampled kick / 808 stuff.  Perhaps a little groove quantizing on the MIDI using the kick mic track would solve that.  Other than that, I should consider slimming down the layers in a few spots.

If the layers are there to give some depth then no, but perhaps some surgical EQ on the kick and the Bass.

Agreed, thank you sir!

Yeah, if you can lock in the bottom end a bit, it'd be good to go IMO.   It is a nice mix of electronic and live instruments.    Although...  it might also be nice to hear some lead (guitar or synth) at about the 1:52 mark, then again towards the end.

Leads... my old nemesis

In the bottom end I'm going to try making some space by pulling out the sampled techno kick when the acoustic is syncopating, and conversely pulling out the low end of the acoustic kick when the samples are driving hard.  I messed with it a bit last night, but haven't done an export to try out in the woofermobile.

Finally got around to updating the file.  I tweaked the 808 samples some, and cut some room for the acoustic kick by pulling out the sample stuff in some spots.

I use a regular kick mic and a woofer mic combination when recording acoustic kick drum, where the mic handles the attack and presence while the woofer handles the deep bass.  When the 808 samples are running on the beat, the woofer mic was removed so there's no conflict in the deep end.
