Hey,

Is it just me, or do you all find Session Drummer sounds are a little dark.  Acoustic set is the one I use most frequently there.

Thanks,

Donny

I can't always distinguish Addictive Drums from BFD from Superior Drummer from SSD, but I can always identify Session Drummer in a recording. "Dull" would be the adjective that comes to my mind, but I guess "dark" is kinder.

I suspect a lot could be done to brighten them up and make them more dynamic. Heck, long ago - long before Session Drummer came along - I was using the TTS-1 for drums. Some of those old projects sound pretty decent, but I remember that it took a lot of work involving transient shapers, EQ, delays and layering. I think nowadays the bundled Percussion Strip would be a good place to start beefing up Session Drummer tracks.

Hey bit,

Great to hear from you man...hope you're doing good.  I haven't been around in a while and I've not done any productions either and had a listen today with ears that are hopefully "fresh" and that's what stood out to me most.  It's like if the drums are dark in impacts the whole mix.  The other main drum source I use is Stylus RMX and I don't notice so much with that...or the E-mu samples in Dimension Pro for that matter.

I've always had a hang up that I should not need to EQ anything...which is just nuts...not sure how I ever arrived at that notion.  I don't trust my ears enough.
