I am using A Steinberg Mr816x as my audio interface with Sonar X1. The Steinberg is not capable of recording system audio (i.e. internal audio). I some times like to record what I have done in Sonar directly to another audio recorder but cannot do that now. I also am making some tutorial videos of the workflow with Sonar and Vienna Ensemble/MIR and would like to record the audio as it happens in Sonar. Someone told me the way to overcome this is to use a small mixer (e.g. Mackie 802 VZL3) and send audio out of the Steinberg then back into the Steinberg from the mixer. Does this sound viable? Any other suggestions? Thanks, Mike

You have enough ins/outs.  You can just cable them.

AT, Right off the bat I have to plead ignorance of how to do this. I just upgraded my system (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, 32GB of RAM) and bought the Steinberg at the suggestion of the folks who designed the computer. In my old system (XP Pro) I was using an M Audio Delta 66 sound card and it was very easy to route via the software interface to do internal system recordings. If you have the time, could you explain how I would have the physically route things on the Steinberg MR816x to achieve my desired result? Thank you, Mike
