Sorry for all you folks who had the 'ah ha!' moment many ears ago and you got to listen to my drooling ;)

Drool right ahead, I think most of us continue to have those 'aha' moments that are new to us but others have known for ages.

It always strikes me like "Now I know what they've been talking about all this time!".

I think that's all part of the fascination of the subject there's so many new things to be discovered along the way and each time it brings new insights and ways of working into play.

Enthusiasm is infectious, I'm loving yours...

Ahh, if only my enthusiasm would be more infectious to my girlfriend... Haha!

You're right though, it's such a huge topic that those aha moments will never stop (or least SHOULD never stop). Bring them on. I'm sure I have many more to come as I continue with my album adventure

Just had another play around with my new toys. Tried the Distressor, 1176, Fairchild, LA-2A, SSL, Blockfish and Sonitus. On drums. Pretty heavily compressed so I could really hear the character of each. I'm now sold on compressors! Wow! Each one sounds just SO different. They treat each part of the spectrum completely different. Some make the kick draw out long. Some stay tight. Some keep a tight kick but bring out the verb of the kick. Not to mention the pumping in the higher frequencies, the feel of the attack, EVERYTHING!

For anyone who is struggling to hear one compressor vs another - DO THIS TEST! Each on has such a different character. I can really see a purpose for each one and when you might want to use it. I think I like the 1176 most on drums cause pushed hard it adds some nice grit (which the 'Distressor' also does) and adds a nice pumping and good tight but big kick sound. The 'Distressor adds a similar grit and dirt (a bit more edgy than the 1176) but without the super big compressed feel so much. Doesn't pump as nicely and recover as quick. Fairchild and LA-2A were pretty useless sounding the way I was using them at least. Not fast enough.

So if you're like me one week ago where I thought it was all a myth and different compressors didn't have a different sound, TRY THIS OUT!!!!!!

Somehow, reading  these praises above, I came to think about the old wisdom so often repeated on this forum: If you can clearly hear the effect, you're overusing it. :o) :o)

Well,I admit, it's mostly mentioned regarding reverbs... :o)

I use a couple of Antress plugs quite regularly. I agree that it's too big of a bundle to really make use of everything. But 1 or 2 of the EQ's and compressors work very well for me. There was a link to you tube were someone A:B compared some of the Antress plugs to some high dollar Waves plugs and it was actually quite impressive how well they compared in a ( albeit U tube audio quality ) . I wish Antress had real parameter enumeration on the knob values - most are just a scale of number of some sort.

Another cool thread Matt. I tried the Antress plugs a while ago and liked quite a few of them. I'm dling 4.95 now. I don't recall trying their Pultec before. I have both UAD-Pultec pro and rhe NF demo, TBH I need to get more familiar with the Pultecs.

I've used them in the past and thought they were pretty good also.  The only problem is that certain one's seemed a bit buggy and would cause crashes while others others seemed to work fine.
