I'll be going topless soon unless I replace the top on my Miata soon. A guy at work said he's done it before and will help, but which is the best?
There are several different materials available, canvas being cheaper than vinyl, but I would have thought canvas would be better than plastic. I think the top I have now is vinyl, but it looks like canvas on the inside.
Anybody have any experience with replacement tops?

I listen to music in the car.
Keeping it music-related.

I'd go with whatever's best at keeping water out, which at a guess is vinyl. I once had an ex-army Land Rover Defender which had a heavy duty canvas top but it couldn't be trusted to be watertight at 50mph in moderately heavy or prolonged rain. Once the canvas is saturated any contact with it at all is probably going to let water through at the point of contact in the same way a canvas tent does.

And wet canvas is heavy, takes ages to dry out and is generally messy to deal with.

The original top is canvas with vinyl bound to the top. You can find replacements on ebay from $185 to $500.

Thanks, Randy, that explains why it feels like plastic and looks like canvas.
