Just a heads up for people that may be curious as to whether the VS700c console will work with Pro-Tools 9... the answer is 'No'.
Pro-Tools 9 currently only supports control surfaces that adhere to the 'HUI' protocol. The HUI protocol is basically a control surface protocol for communicating directly with Pro-Tools.
The VS-700C currently only supports Mackie emulation. Apparently real Mackie interfaces even have to be placed into HUI mode to work with Pro-Tools. So far Pro-Tools is the only DAW that I have encountered that doesn't work with the VS-700C.
Amazingly there is a $15 iPad control surface app (AC-7 Core) that controls Pro-Tools wirelessly and provides essentially the same functionality that the VS-700C would. Ironically, I could never get that same app to work with SONAR even though it claims that its supported. With PT9 I was able to get it working the first time.
FWIW, the VS-700R I/O box seems to work OK as an audio interface. However, the inputs/outputs are not-labeled in PT9. So be prepared to spend some time figuring out which port is which.
I honestly don't expect Cakewalk/Roland to fix this problem. Nevertheless, I just wanted give anyone else a heads-up that may be considering trying out PT9.
