I'm using Windows 7 32bit and I was running Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 fine playing MIDI and playing/recording AUDIO.
Since few days I cannot play audio files anymore because CWPA crashes as soon as I press the start key.
I did a lot of research and tests, including:
-Uninstall/reinstall CWPA many times.
-Uninstall/reinstall audio drivers, and updating to latest (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC version 6.10.0.6292).
-Manually Registry delete and reinstall CWPA.
I cannot restore the system to an earlier point because I don't have one older than when the issue started.

I've created a minidump and I can provide it via e-mail.
I know this version of software is not supposed to run in Win 7 but I would be really greatefully if someone has an idea about how to make it working again.

Thank you in advance

Regards,

cant really help you there man sorry.
my advise is to upgrade as soon as possible.
im guessing that it is windows 7 that's causing the crash and it may be an update from windows.
have you installed recent updates?

could also be an anti virus or some other program recently installed.
I had it running on windows 7 but it was almost pointless seeing how the dxi plug ins wont work in win 7 and only XP.

do yourself a favor.
upgrade to atleast sonar essentials. you will be blown away at how much more you can do in x1 or x2 essentials and you can find this version on sale for 60.00 at times.

I would even try downloading the trial here:
http://www.cakewalk.com/products/sonar/web-trial.aspx

you could always call cakewalk, im assuming your a registered customer using a registered copy.
they could probably sort this out for you in no time at all.

Thanks mate for your answer.
I'm worry too it could be a windows updated caused this issue. I cannot restore from a previous point as there is none. :-(
I'd like to stay with Cakewalk because my friends use it and we exchange .wrk files to study.
Moreover I sing along the MIDI and then I combine them creating wave or MP3 files.

Anyhow I'm still trying to fix it, not sure when I'll give up

Cheers!

I don't know if this is exactly true, but I remember reading in this forum or on some other forum that you install it in the root directory on Windows 7; not in the "Program Files" folder.  For example: C:\Cakewalk.  This apparently fixed a lot of problems.  I don't use Windows 7, so I can't vouch for it.

Sorry, I did not read your 1st post correctly.  It looks like it installs OK, but you can't play wave files, correct?  What about pure MIDI?  Can it play those files.

Are the MIDI ports correct?  Is the Output Port high-lighted on Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth.  There may be others listed also.  What is the model of your sound card?

Options, Audio and Wave Profiler down at the bottom.  Try running that and see what happens.

One last thing is to check that the wave file you are testing is not corrupt.

Good luck.

I can play MIDI just fine.
I've tried all your advices already but no luck.
The sound card is IDT High Definition Audio
The issue comes out just adding an AUDIO Track and start to play.
Anyway, I've also tried with multiple wave files...
I think the problem started to happen after one of the multiple windows updates as it was working fine till beginning of May.
Thanks for your help

You could try this site.  I would look for audio updates / sound card updates first.  You could also uninstall the lot from May.
sevenforums.com/tutorials/24373-windows-update-uninstall-update.html

After that, this link here:

Set it to choose to install the important and recommended updates "manually" by reviewing available updates when you check for updates in Windows Update.  This would alow you to track down the problem update that is causing it.
