Hello everyone, I was wondering if you fine folks could give my latest cover song a listen and let me know what you think? Any and all critique, suggestions, thought and feedback is welcome.

If needed I can explain what all comping and EQ I did.

Software used:

Sonar X3
Amplitube 4
Izotope Ozone 7
EZDrummer 2 (no drums were single tracked, I just threw some EQ and compression on it)

Good job on the guitars. Now set the melody aside and concentrate on breathing some life into those drums.

As AT suggests, you'll get more comments if you post this in the Songs forum.

Ok, is there a way to move it over there or delete this and I will repost it there?

I'll move it there for you.

Yeah, the guitars sound good and balanced.....completely agree with Bitflipper on the drums. They do need to be brought up a notch or two and definitely needs some brightness/sheen/clarity on them. Your other tracks on youtube had pretty good sounding drums.

Not sure if the bass is intended to be (slightly) on the thin side, but I would've like to hear a bit more lower end......(of course, it's all subjective). Did you use an amp cab for the bass?

With a few minor tweaks here & there, this should sound very good. :))

Thanks bitflipper. I went ahead and finally decided to route out the drums to single tracks from my EZDrummer. I spent most of my day yesterday working on EQ and compression for them. I will see how they sound with my next cover.

I like to do these short video game covers to get my production better before I get back into my original music.
I feel like I have come along way on my guitars over the past year. Just need to get these drums to sparkle on there own.

Anyone have tips on EQing drums? What to listen for, what not to cut, where to add?

Hey Mesh, my Bass is

Amplitube 4:
Gaillen krueger amp,
Treb 7,
Mid hi 6.5,
Mid lo 2.5,
Bass 2.5

Matching Cab:
2x Dynamic mic 57
1mic is just off center
1mic is middle of speaker from center to edge of cone.

I also EQed out the low end on this cover with a flat 12 highpass at 65hz and the usual cut at 60hz to make way for the kick.

Aaah.....you took out the lower frequencies.

I'm thinking once you get just the drums sounding good, you can add the bass into the drum mix and adjust the bass levels (EQ the lower levels etc..) from there. The guitars will automatically fit in the mix easily once the other two are sitting well together.

Just use your ears in telling you what sounds good vs. what doesn't......(sez this hobbyist who doesn't have the technical knowledge to explain it properly ).
