If you are interested you local history or maps the National Library of Scotland has a huge archive of maps of the UK including large scale Ordnance survey maps of various vintages.

I have been looking at my local area and bought some of the download versions so I can play with them in the Open Source QGIS program but a lot can be done on line without spending any money including seeing the maps overlaid on current maps and satellite images. The quality and clarity delivered by the  19th century map engravers is amazing.

I got 25 inch to the mile OS maps of three vintages 1894, 1906 and 1938 and Six inch to the Mile OS maps from 1869 & 1907.
