To fudgel is an eighteenth-century term meaning “Pretending to work when you're not actually doing anything at all.”

If you’re finifugal you’re afraid of finishing anything.

I was in business years ago with a co-director who was an absolute master at that.

I know a few directors whom have passed that Mastering level and don't even pretend anymore.

There was guy where I used to work that walked around all day carrying a clip board. What he was actually doing during that time was collecting/distributing his football pools coupons, for which he got paid by the company that ran that.

( for the benefit of the 'mericans, "the pools" was a UK weekly gambling slip based on trying to predict football results that was popular in the days before the national lottery took over. Oh wait, that's not enough info........... football is a game played with a round ball where one team uses mostly their feet to pass it to each other in a way that might enable one of them to kick it into the goal. The team with the most goals is the winner.)

When he wasn't doing that he could usually be found in the canteen sipping a beverage or munching on some chocolate bar  or other because as a diabetic who had once had a bit of a turn at work he had been given carte blanche to do this whenever he felt the need to manage his blood sugar. Being a US company they were totally paranoid about the possibility of being sued if he fell ill again whilst at work if he had been prevented from doing so.  In 6 years I don't think I ever saw him actually at the desk where in theory he worked.
