This thread is very closely related to the one I started on the 1w Amp question. Basically, exactly my dilemma, to power down a 50w amp with an attenuator, or use a 1w amp full bore to power up a cabinet. The YouTube demos of the Blackstar 1w have mic'd recordings of it powering up a 212 and a 412. I understand about the speaker break up being critical, but you also lose that with the attenuator, if I understand correctly.

I think I will need to return to GC and demo the Blackstar again with a fresh set of ears. I am guessing that I won't be able to answer my question unless they have a Head unit somewhere in Dallas that I can use to power up a cabinet.

I used to go to a lot of guitar forums where guys would make a whole shrine out of the gear in their bed rooms
They would have have a couple of guitars sitting on a multi stand right there in front off their custom made pedal board , the pedal board would have all the blinking lights on lit up like a Christmas tree …all this was then set at the foot of a hand wired point to point $2500.00 custom made boutique Dumble Clone …
Aye Carrumba …..these guys called that their bedroom rig .
I pity the poor woman that is stuck with a guitar player that thinks there is such a thing as a bedroom amp …
Why a guitar player would want to torture his poor old lady while she is either trying to get in the mood for some nookie or just trying to have a quiet moment to read a book before she goes to sleep …… is beyond me ….

Any real genuine guitar player that is worth the sock that he stuffs in stage pants knows , there is only one bedroom rig that works …
A softly candle lit room , freshly cleaned silk sheets and pillow cases on the bed,  a nice bottle of wine or champagne , some european chocolates , fresh flowers in a vase right over by the scented oils and a good Classical Guitar

sorry folks i couldn't help myself

That sounds wonderful.  What amp stack(s) would you use?

I'm not really worried about the bedroom, I do fine there.😄

I'm looking more for studio levels that are easier on the years. I'm starting to lose some of my hearing and I'm trying to save what I can.

I'm glad your doing OK in the bedroom ….

FWIW ….I always have to keep my levels very low …
I live in apt , it's pretty tough on me and I sure don't want anybody to hear me when I play ….

MakeShift have you ever thought about an Isolation Cab ?

I have one of those Marshall micro stacks. The one about 6" high and runs on 9v batteries. It ain't a real stack, but you can get some good sound with them if you get a good mic placement on it.

Point being, right speaker, right power, decent sound. But I can still bother someone in the next room with it.
