Well, If the very definition of curmudgeon is ...." a person thinks that LOTR is a load of unnecessarily long-winded fairytale bollocks " then yes, yes I am and that's no bad thing IMO.

I'd say one of the definitions is someone who almost always appears on a forum thread to tell someone else that what they like is bollocks, especially if it's popular...

Out of interest, what DO you like?

I like plenty of stuff and I've also contributed to threads about such things, but if people choose to overlook that because sometimes my opinion of something they like is not the same as theirs, then what can you do? Unfortunately, I keep forgetting that only agreeing with everyone is allowed these days.

You know that popular doesn't always equal good, right ?

See that VHS boxed set of all the Police Academy movies?

That's your favourite thing, that is.

Love GoT. 'Battle of The Bastards' from the last season was jaw dropping.

One of the best battle scenes I've ever seen.  Big screen movie battles aren't as dramatic, intense and visual as the Battle of the Bastards.

I guess I'm gonna have to buy the DVD set after this season. There are so many characters I've lost the thread of the story and have to watch it again with a guide to tell me who's who. "What?!? he's dead?" "Oh, he came back to life?!? WTF?"

Still, even if there isn't enough nudity for you it's got frickin' DRAGONS, man!

Yeah, that's my only issue with the story...bringing select folks back from the dead.  Kind of ruins the drama around the story and characters when you know, if the author simply wants to, they can arrange for a witch or someone nearby to do a silly ritual and bring them back.  Unnecessary and mostly stupid.  It proves the writer had no imagination left.  I love GRRM, but come on...he can do better than writing himself into a corner and then pulling a zombie card.

But what the hell, right?  It's a great show anyways, and nothing like it on TV or the movies.  Martin truly does believe in the concept that villains are merely heroes to the other side, and vice versa.  He's written a clinic on it, here.

The whole resurrection of JS was kinda lame, but considering the makeup of the hordes marching down from the north it's not that far-fetched in the context of the story.

From time to time I have to remind myself that "popular" doesn't always mean "bad" either.  My initial reaction to "popular" stuff is to shun it, whatever it is, until it's proven to actually be "good".

Breaking Bad was pretty too, IMO.  I also liked Dexter enough to watch the series twice.  Every time I see/hear "What would Jesus do?", I think, "What would Dexter do?"

It's hard to predict, but it might turn out to have been a necessary plot element from the standpoint of his claim to the throne.
