Dear Family,

Just reaching out for support in this dark night of the soul. Only you guys could understand.

I have finally gotten rid of Win XP. Loved the stability but nothing new would run on it anymore.
Upgraded to win 7 64 bit from the England sites off of Ebay that legally allow resale of scrap OEM licenses from broke down computers. (This after contacting MS and they said OEM's are a go on the discontinued OS but can't transfer the license).
Installed and MS says that it is an invalid license number. Tried to contact the vendors and got a reply that they are out of the office. That was $3.00 yankee green down the tubes. Anyway got it working thru other means.

I'm fully convinced that if there is a hell in the afterlife, it will be sitting in front of a screen for eternity trying to reinstall your recording environment. Old version of IK Miroslav creeping thru the process ever so slow.

Looking with dread to installing Superior Drummer and the Cakewalk synths if I can ever get the IK stuff working. Crap, then there's Kontakt. Then there's 15 gigs of Alchemy. Please say a prayer and send some good vibes my way.

Otherwise, hope all are having a good time.

John

A few months ago, a friend of mine gave me his old Alienware laptop so that I could finally access my old projects - he'd offered something more recent but I insisted on something running Windows XP. Felt a bit nostalgic...

I never thought I 'd need to go beyond that but I was provided with a Windows 7 laptop at work a few weeks ago- and I actually really like it - although OSX remains my platform of choice.

Oddly enough, my old MacBook Pro/internet machine finally died on me right about the same time. My experience with the W7 machine convinced me that a Windows laptop might be worth considering if I ever buy another internet machine.

Oh man, I feel your pain.... I remember taking a whole 3-day weekend just to get my last new pc even close to where it's predecessor had been and with each new installation method that vendors some up with it seems to get worse.

About a month ago I bought Komplete Select plus the upgrade to Komplete 11 and thanks to NI's "new" way of doing things just installing Select was such a complete and utter balls ache that I haven't yet worked up enough enthusiasm to face even starting on the full Komplete, so it still sits in the unopened box.

Can y'all imagine if/when I have to do my 2TB+ (and growing) samples drive again?

Guys,

Thanks for the replies, support.
Got Dim Pro 1.2, 32 bit installed finally. 64 bit went belly up. Rapture, ZTA okay. Working on the Cake things like strings, TTS-1, Boost, pianos etc.
Only 2 programs I got, ZTA and Xpandi that require online activation because I couldn't beat the system. Cracked everything else I bought.
Noted that after the PACE install for Xpandi, the startup time and sequence is weird in many ways. PACE is evil.

Though I prostituted myself with out of control online activations where something else owns your soul and wallet, the Cake Command Center was quite painless to get ZTA up and running.

The nightmare of Alchemy and Kontakt is on tap tomorrow if I can slam Cake into submission today. Superior Drummer a task on its own for another day.

Cakewalk flashing error messages as I type. Joy...

Thanks Craig,

Getting there...
The Cake things installed finally.
Got the uphill battle of Alchemy, Superior, and Kontakt ahead.
Day or two of work and I should have a white man's system installed again.
Has been a big relief getting things functional in Win 7 that were a crash for Win XP.
