Now Star Trek tech is/was one of those sci fi franchises actually inspiring technology.

The old StarTak phones (and really all fliphones) are of course based on the old comminicators from ST:ToS and now iPads/iPhones/flatscreens/touchscreens are ubiquitous which are pretty much what ST:TNG had (well before we did).

Star Trek has been so consistently cited by the now ultra rich tech nerds as their inspiration to a certain extent Roddenberry created a self fulfilling technological prophecy.

I do however like the way tech things are dealt with in ST: Enterprise even though it's not really the best sub franchise. They make the attempt to somewhat tie current space tech (or current at the time) to what is seen in the later ST universe... which I think is more interesting than just "We can do all this crazy futuristic crap with our crazy futistic junk. DON'T ASK TOO MANY QUESTIONS!!".

In ST: Enterprise things are still cramped and dirty and everyones gotta flip actual switches and whatnot instead of just saying "COMPUTER!! Do things!!!".

It may also be time to do another Star Trek binge.

Or maybe Andromeda.

Firefly is totes janked and you should feel bad for liking it.

That cat always reminds me of the British comedian Simon Day (from The Fast Show).

The situation reversed itself from I would say the late 1980's onward, when computer displays were depicted as being far fancier than they are in real life. Remember the movie Hackers? Totally ridiculous depiction of computers! A pet hate of mine is when movies depict computer interactions in which the computer's responses are printed character by character like a typewriter, along with a stupid chirping sound.

The ones that make me laugh are scenes like in Lucy where she's incredibly intelligent and whizzing through things on her computer - yeah, right!!!

I love it when someone grabs a laptop or keyboard and starts furiously typing away with both hands, while looking at the screen with furrowed brow...

Yep.  That's the scene I'm talking about!
