Hi Peeps

I've just finished my latest project. Before you click any links I should explain a few things.

MSV Not Invented Here will be included in an album I am creating called "Culture Ships." The Culture series is a collection of science fiction novels by the late Iain M Banks. The three previous pieces from this album can be classed as "dark ambient," and this next offering is pretty much the same, so may be a bit of a challenge for peeps here that prefer three minute pop songs. So, you have been warned

This latest creation features one old toy and one new toy.

The Old Toy: I have had Absynth since V3 and I like this synth a lot, when I can be bothered putting away my virtual analogue VSTi synths. So Absynth 5 is used here and nothing else.

The New Toy: Adaptiverb... Yeah, that reverb that isn't a reverb... Not to me anyway. Yes, I am sure it makes a very good reverb, but I am finding it an absolute inspiration and I'm having loads of fun running Absynth through it, as well as other instruments and samples.

The piece lasts fifteen minutes long. Quite a long one for me. It is not easy listening... More sort of curtains closed... sit in front of your hi-fi and chill, while wondering what comes next.

Anyway, for your *ahem* listening pleasure:-

I'm half way through this now and I keep expecting Robert Fripp to rip into a disjointed buzzsaw solo.

With this genre it's pretty hard to come up with any meaningful comments about the mix since just about anything you choose to do is correct. The sounds are pretty darned cool though, with a subtle tension that ebbs and flows nicely. I can for sure see this playing in the Atlanta airport inter-terminal tunnel.

Haha! Thanks for listening Kevin. I appreciate it all the more because this isn't exactly popular stuff

You're right, of course... Not easy to comment on anything really because, like you say, whatever comes out of those speakers I'll just say, "yeah, it's supposed to do that."

Thanks again for listening... I hope you made it through to the other side okay...

cheers

Hiya Mesh... Nice edit

I was going to mention some herbs, but wasn't sure if peeps would be offended haha!

Let me know if you manage to get through all fifteen minutes and I'll send you a gold star

May I also extol the virtues of Absynth 5? I made my first entire album with it all over the place. It kind of sucked, but not because of Absynth. Absynth is brilliant.

Your piece is great, I liked how I could hear everything even at low levels. I like dark ambient stuff and this is a fun background listen. My life does not permit me to "chill" even for 15 minutes . . . oh well.

very patient and inventive as usual Andy - I really like the way it seamlessly moves through sound textures - very cool

Well, now that I know that Tom, I'll make some more for you

Don't you fancy doing some yourself Tom? Dust off Absynth and get yourself some Adaptiverb

Thanks for listening and I'm glad you managed to listen. This stuff drives my missus potty so I have to choose my moments to carry out the usual speaker checks haha!

Hi Daryl,

Thanks for your patience yet again... You have listened to pretty much everything I have posted here over the last 18 months or so.

I guess it could have been a bit shorter, but I had made my mind up on the length before hand. It was fun experimenting with all the different combinations of Absynth and Adaptiverb. And this time round I sculpted out quite a bit of space here and there so it almost goes silent between certain parts.

Thanks again for listening

cheers

I think Daryl nailed my initial impression - "the way it seamlessly moves through sound textures".   Very nice.  And all Absyth, all the time, huh?    Well, even better...   I've always liked Absynth but for whatever reason I rarely use it.    This makes me want to go explorer...
