Is there a way in Rapture to fine tune the steps to a defined cent?

Since I know each note is 100 cents apart from another (Thanks, B Rock!), I could easily set up the exact notes I want the step gen to play in the PITCH Step Gen. All I can seem to do is drag the steps up and down. There is no value anywhere that represents the step's value - that I can see.

I want to be able to hard code the steps with a cent value. Is that possible?

Right-click context menu, Adam. (Click in the graphic itself). You'll see at lot of options there, including some very useful Snap-To choices. Don't forget about the MIDI Note entry. Just play in your sequence, and adjust it from there.

Remember, the steps are relative to what you have set in the Depth control. Default is 4800 cents, so that's four octaves for the full range of a step. In the middle (halfway up) will be +2 octaves (2400 cents). At the bottom, you'll get the same pitch going out that's coming in. You can just as easily limit this range by adjusting the Depth control. HTH

Edit: That was the quickie answer. Press "P" to bring every step to the closest logical pitch, or use your mouse scroll wheel to bring the whole StepGen pattern up & down. Most of this applies to the other Stepgens, except those Pitch-specific options. As always, fire back if this isn't clear.

I had everything you mentioned figured out with the exception of the MIDI note entry. When I enable it, the first bar turns to an orange haze and there is a horizontal bar that can be moved up and down. I can't seem to do anything else after that.....

The problem here (if you can call this a problem) is that you use the Depth control as the "master". So, everything is related to that setting. So, for example, you set the depth to +1200 cents (double-click on it). A full octave of range from bottom to top. Then, set the Snap-To to 12. Now, each time that you raise it with your mouse, it'll be 100 cents. You just have to do some simple mental math.

Set the number of Steps to 12, and progressively raise each one. It's locked to a snap of 12. Result: an ascending chromatic scale.
As for the MIDI Note entry: Are you using a MIDI keyboard to enter your notes in after that, in the desired sequence?

Ok, I get it now! For some reason, I was thinking the Snap-to option snapped it by the number of cents. I see now. Thanks!

About the MIDI, I don't have my MIDI controller hooked up at the moment; I was just messing around and trying to use the Piano roll within Sonar - which probably doesn't work. I'll hook my controller up tonight and give it a shot. Thanks again!

Hmm ... it outputs MIDI; I don't know why that wouldn't work. Adam, I wrote a little tutorial a while back. It has to do with using Project5 .ptn files as a source for Rapture's MIDI Note entry feature. While it isn't geared towards Sonar use, I can't see why the same concepts wouldn't apply there.

is there way to randomize notes in the SG so that they adhere to not only the song key, but notes actually in the chord being played?
