Hey,
My wife is going to start playing out as a single act.
Some of her material will be classical piano music and so she needs a good 3 pedal unit.
I ran across this one for $70 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VFP310 but wondering if you guys have other suggestions.
I wouldn't think there would be big differences in quality since they are basically just on/off switches but it would be nice if it didn't have to be duck-taped to the floor to keep from sliding around.

I've wanted to add 3 pedals to my digi Ps.
 
My Casio Privia 88 key digi piano is capable but requires a special plug. You can buy a pedal for it from Casio.
 
My Yamaha 88 keyboard will only work with 2 pedals.
 
Most of my virtual instrument pianos will use 3 controllers.
 
I've thought about adding a MIDI solutions F8 general purpose input to MIDI for the Yamaha.
 
The bottleneck is the keyboard, and the type of connector it uses.
 
I recommend you determine what will work with your choice of keyboard and go from there.

Good thing you posted on this Mike because her keyboard is a Casio Privia 88 key.
When you say "You can a peal for it from Casio." do you mean we would need to buy the adaptor directly from Casio?

 Yes, I meant to say that you can buy a Casio 3 pedal with the special connector.
 
 You should check into it and see if that is the case with your Privia.
 
 On mine, if I recall correctly, I can use the Casio brand pedal or I have the option of using a generic 2 pedal unit with standard 1/4" connectors.
 I had to download the owners manual for mine to figure it out. It was a while ago, so I don't remember the details but I do remember it was documented fairly well.
 My Privia is the type that uses the 3 pedals mounted to the Casio piano stand, so secure placement isn't an issue.

This is what I found in the manual...I wonder if the adaptor you're referring to is needed due to the fact that you have to hit the control button on the Privia to switch between soft and sostenuto (as indicated in the bold print below).
If that's the case then maybe she should just get a 2 pedal unit since she never uses sostenuto on her acoustic pianos anyway...you reckon?

The digital piano is equipped with two pedal jacks,
one for a damper pedal and one for a soft/sostenuto
pedal.
Pedal functions
• Damper pedal
Pressing this pedal causes notes to reverberate and
to sustain longer.
• Soft pedal
Pressing this pedal dampens notes and slightly
reduces their volume. Only notes played after the
pedal is depressed are affected, and any notes
played before the pedal is pressed sound at their
normal volume.
• Sostenuto pedal
Like the damper pedal, this pedal causes notes to
reverberate and to sustain longer. The difference
between the two pedals is the timing when they
are pressed.
With the sostenuto pedal, you press the pedal after
depressing the notes you want to sustain. Only the
notes whose keyboard keys are depressed when the
sostenuto pedal is pressed are affected.
Selecting the Pedal Function
A pedal connected to the piano’s PEDAL jack can
operate as either a soft pedal or a sostenuto pedal.
When you turn on the keyboard, the pedal is initially
configured for soft pedal operation. You can perform
the following operation to select either soft or
sostenuto for the pedal operation.
While holding down the CONTROL
button, use the keyboard keys shown below
to select either soft or sostenuto.
