mgh
so my debut album is finally out
most of the songs on it have featured on here over the years and I do owe a huge debt of thanks to so many people present and past who have taken the time to comment on my recordings and helped me improve them.

it's extreme metal I'm afraid so not the cup of chai most of you sup from but nevertheless I shall inflict it on you again. the video below is the final track from the album.

the first 3 songs of the follow-up are done and so I anticipate it being a close-run thing between the sophomore album release and humans on Mars...;-)

Well, for me to say that this is out of my *normal* listening experience would be an understatement, however...

All artists -- I would presume -- want to evoke emotions in the listener.  I was initally put off and yet somewhat hypnotized (!?) by this music.  The guitars sound amazing.  The changes at the 3 min. mark are dramatic and very effective.  In one word = *scary sounding* (okay, two words).

(In the few times before I've heard this genre I've been aware of a kind of lack of bottom to it -- the bass and kick seem to get lost to me -- but that could also be my crappy system and the fact that I didn't blast the volume.)

I think this would greatly appeal to listeners who are into this genre.  It's not for me but I can *usually* tell if something is well done and this certainly is that.  Good job and I hope you get a lot of traction with it.

Wow, I was so shocked!  I was expecting a ballad.  NOTTTT!!!!  It is definitely what you do, Mark.  I will say that the singer was a bit unclear with his lyrics.  LOL!!  I wonder if you know who SACRED REICH is.  The lead player, Wiley Arnett, is a friend of mine.  He and my brother in law have a restaurant here.  He has been touring in Europe more lately.  Mark, I wish you the best of luck with your CD.  For anyone who listens to this genre they are in for a treat!

Well done Mark, it's a ton of work to bring out an album under your own steam. Hope it does well for you. Sonically it's excellent, although I don't pretend to 'get' this genre. Guitars are amazing, huge...

Awesome.  For some reason I had that scene from *The Shining* with the blood flowing down the hallways going through my mind during the song. :D:D Sonically, you did a really good job of contrast, maybe not in volume but in different shades of eq (midrange to bass to more bite etc.)  Good luck with everything.

Congrats on your debut CD Mark!  I just finished listening to the assault of Samson Agonistes and man, it comes with a serious can of whup-ass!  My only crit is you should retitle the subject header of this thread to say "my debut album is out".  You are a big contributor to this community and have helped many of us with our mixes, and celebrated our CD launches.  It is only fitting that you would share this happy moment with everyone, loudly and proudly.

So here is an interesting twist in my life that connects to what you do.  I just remarried back in May.  My wife's youngest niece and her boyfriend now live a few hours from us.  He is into black/death/whatever label you want to give it metal...big time.  He likes a wide variety of music but this genre (genres?) seems to really do it for him.  So that being said, I think your CD would make a great Christmas gift for him and so I just ordered one.  Thanks!

Best wishes with the new CD!

While this is not my genre of choice, it is definitely exceedingly well done.  Congrats on the release, too.
