I've just purchased a Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 audio interface. The supplied lead is Firewire 400 (Saffire) to Firewire 800 (PC).
My PC has a Firewire 400 port! Should I get an adapter or can I use a Firewire 400 to Firewire 400 lead. (I'm impatient and can pick up a lead tomorrow but will have to wait for an adapter!)

you need the 400 lead.  your PC which has the 400 port wont recognize the 800 lead, they are different pin configurations.
 
you need a firewire 400 to 400 lead.  then your all set.
