I think I may officially become the world's first Twisted Sister hipster with this statement but IMO Under the Blade was a far superior album than Stay Hungry was (from a music perspective). I played my cassette of that obsessively. I did not own You Can't Stop Rock and Roll but friends did and although I have not heard it in years it also was superior to Stay Hungry from my recollection.

Love Is For Suckers was the other one I owned but it was... not so good.

Here's live footage of TS performing Under the Blade (just the song) in 82. It's just oozing with that raw "RIP IT UP!!" energy mentioned up thread.

Also I decided to peruse the TS wiki page...

Apparently their first record deal was with a UK punk label and a young Mettalica opened for them on tour. Due to the extremely dated outfits, choreography and nature of the music (especially the hits) TS is kind of the brunt of (usually affectionate) jokes but for the time period they really did write/play some of the purest metal of their time. I'd say the only other top bands REALLY cranking out what I consider pure metal (that I can respect) during that period are Iron Maiden and Judas Preist (was never a big Preist fan but they were most definitely metal).

Play it Loud Muthas!

Dee Snyder wrote one of the biggest hit songs ever produced. Celine Dion sang it in the Titanic movie. He's set for life because of that 1 song.

Snider is a smart dude. Out of all the things I respect him for his testimony during that "Parents Against Rock" silliness is top of the list. Right up there with Zappa and Biafra*... but he managed to be less abrasive than them and likely had more of a positive effect on the precedings simply by being likeable and down to earth.

I think people were legitimately shocked that the freaky looking, make up wearing weirdo who poses with teeth bared at raw turkey(?) legs was a decent guy "you could have a beer with".

Ya, Dee's alright.

*edit: Weird, I thought Jello had testified at those hearings but apparently (AFAICT based on my curious intertube poking) he didn't. I must have been recalling testimony from some other 1A proceeding (maybe the Geiger thing... or some other official thingie where he was mouthing off... brilliantly).

Sorry 'bout that. I was like 8 yo at the time. I was however two years deep into my lurv affair with metal.
