Thanks all!  I'll be reposting a new mix in the next day based on your great comments.  I'll reply more fully at that time.

cclarry:  Thanks for taking a minute to listen to our tune and for the nice comment.

mgh Mark:  Thanks for giving the tune a listen.  I appreciate the critique.  I have a new version up now that hopefully pumps up the drum and bass.  I'm in a new room these days and this is the first "real" mix I've done so the comments are helping me figure out where I need to be.  Thanks for the nice comment on the center section.  That was a late addition to the tune.

Mark(Markus):  Thanks for giving the tune a whirl and for your very nice comment.  Love the guitar work on Rabbit Hole, what a monster tune!

Dan:  Thanks for listening to the tune and for putting out some helpful crits.  Thanks for the kind comments, glad you liked the tune and the guitars.  I had a completely different tone for the original idea but it was clear after a few listens that I needed to do something a little different.  I actually created a bank of new patches inspired by this tune, mainly based around a Bassman amp.

James:  Thank you for the listen and for your very fine comments.  I appreciate the chiming in on the bass.  Tom usually mixes the bass back and I thought I had it up front but apparently not.  Now I think it is thumping with the 9-6 remix.  Good observation on the lack of Tom's touch of lunacy!  LOL  As you now know, I am mixing this one, a rarity for sure.  It has been fun, sometimes frustrating but always a learning experience.  But don't worry, Tom will be back again with his pocketful of madness!

Warren:  Thank you for checking out the tune and for the all kind comments and insights.  This tune was a first in that I wrote the lyrics, sang lead on the original idea and Tom came in and revised the words just a tad but totally switched up gears on the delivery.  Once we hear that, I knew my original vocals were toast!  LOL
Yeah, it was neat to see a Pugtones song up when I went to post.  Very exciting and man, what a great tune Rabbit Hole is.  You knocked it out of the park with the lyrics, bass and vocals.  I played it for my wife last night and she really digs it too.

Ed:  Thanks for the listen and chiming in on the bass.  If you have time to check it out again, let me know if the bass is sitting in the mix better now.

John:  Thanks a bunch for checking out the tune and chiming in on the crits.  Thanks for your kind words and willingness to give our crazy stuff a listen.  Hope you Sunday got better!

Really nice tune, guys, and well done too.  Mix sounded pretty solid to me.

Hi Tony
this mix is better. the bass and drums are at a much better level now. for me i'd like to see gnarlier basstone (can you reamp a clone and mix in?) and again the drums i personally would compress more, but in terms of overall mix levels, it's now PERFECT. really shows what a great tune it is, a bit different for you, not so dark.

Phil:  Thanks for taking a few minutes to listen and for the feedback and nice comments.

Mark(mgh):  Thanks for the relisten Mark and for your specific thoughts about the bass and drums.  I'm pretty sure Tom recorded direct on this one so I can likely get a dry bass track from him that I could effect and mix in.  I assume you were thinking of a slightly fuzzed or distorted tone?  Thanks for the info on the compression for the drums.  I was going to ask what specifically you might do to the drums to make them more punchy.  Would you make that compression setting consistent across the whole kit or just to specific instruments?  I keep all the full song mixes separately so I can go back and create a new mix with your two comments in mind to see what it sounds like that way and still have this mix if I we prefer it.  It will be a good learning experience for me and we might like it better.  I have already found that in my new room, I need to mix the bass pretty aggressively because it was thumping pretty good here on my first posted mix and everyone wanted more!  LOL  Good stuff to know for sure.

Ok, buddy, so I am coming from a bass player's point of view.  It is not my only instrument but it is my favorite.  This song is so full but I am getting a less than full bass sound on my system.  Explain?  Not sure I can.  I keep waiting for the bass to thump.  The bass line is cool but it seems a bit to the back of the mix.  Could it be a bit fuller?  In the very beginning is where I hear the tone the best and it seems as though it could be a bit heavier for this tune.  NOW,  REMEMBER, Mark does all our mixing so I am strictly gut and not technical.  Having said all this, I want to say that I am on my 4th listen and I truly love this tune!!!

Tony,

Overall, the levels are much better, but there is still very little bottom on the bass. I think you may want to parallel EQ the bass track and add some butter at around 80-150hz. Kick could use some around 50-70hz. Toms could use compression to make them punchier. Everything else sounds pretty good as is...

Dan

Great song and textures throughout.
I think the vocal could use some of the bottom end rolled off of it which would enable you to bring the bass up in the mix.
However I may be wrong,  in which case please beat me vigorously with a wet fish to atone for my mistake.

Boring. wet fish do not have quite the same sound as a limb and no where near as satisfying .

This definitely getting better, yes the Kick could do with a little more omf as could the Bass, probably some surgical EQ and some heavier compression but it is a very enjoyable tune.
