Yes, it was a Christmas present (good memory Starise:) and I had it installed on my XP drive with Sonar 8.5.3. I did play with it for a few months and then upgraded to X1 (which I installed on a seperate drive with Vista). I just never got to installing it on Vista......as you can see, X1 changes everything!!

Thanks for starting this thread.....I'm re-hiring my virtual musicians (again).

Herb was nice enough to offer his help to me in reference to a steel guitar part. Unfortunately I haven't had an oppurtunity to finish the tune (after going through 25 lead vocal tracks and actually buying Melodyne to help the tracks...I gave up....too frustrating and time consuming)and had to move on to other things......I did buy BIB 11.5 just so I could have fiddle and steel guitar at my disposal.....Like Herb, I'm in a situation where it's just more efficient as a DIY situation...I highly recommend having this program...what little time I've had to play with it, I think it's great.

Herb: Don't know what part of Carolina you're in...it's a shame you're having issues with vocalists, etc.

I recall a post on another thread by a fairly well respected musician/producer who said something I can't quote but it was along the lines of- "I don't want to use that particular sound or part of the program because it will sound like everyone else."

In this case the program wasn't at fault so much as the program having what they thought was or could become a generic sound. I'm sure we all remember the fads. I was pretty young then, but I remember when the Yamaha DX7 came out. The music world went ape nuts over it, it seemed that everything had a DX7 sound in it somewhere. Then the Korg M-1 came out and the same thing happened. Almost every new tune on the charts had sounds from that keyboard in it.

I see the same things happening in software unless we can purposefully individualize our music. The last thing I want to hear is someone saying," Yeah thats the same loop or drum I heard on so and so".

I already hear a lot of stuff out there that has that "generic" ring to it. I can usually tell unfeeling mechanical churned out music over music with some kind of feel to it. The best kinds of music actually convey a deep emotion or feeling from the artist/composer.

Starise: Yes, and clean chorused Strat tones in the notched position between the middle and treble pickup were the norm then too........
Fads will always be here (autotune...what's next, lol)

I hope that the steel guitar parts are a little flexible with BITB...we'll see

@Guitarhacker
That Emerald-tune sounds good to me...! Once a year I think about getting BiaB, but two things are holding me back: the price (if I want to buy what I like, it just costs too much) and, to be frank, the AWFUL interface. It looks like a shareware program from 1995.. (sorry!). I'd love to have it though, to easily set up some basic tracks to work on in Sonar: quite often I don't feel like making a new song because it's so much work...

(BTW Does anyone know how to quote a post and then add your stuff to it WITHOUT staying in quote mode...? I wanted to quote Guitarhacker but my reply showed up as a quote too...?
EDIT
The solo's that I hear in the various demo on the BiaB site: if you create your own songs (well... if you enter your own chord progressions... ) don't you get solo's with the same licks all over the place...? I have the idea those RealTrack parts are pre-recorded, so... seems to me that if you make three songs with a specific RealTrack setup, you will hear repetetive parts...? Those RealTrack sound mighty fine to me, I have to add.
And btw it seems to have ditched the MIDI-packs completely and only offer RealTrack stuff now? Yeah, it's that time of the year again to consider BiaB...

I agree the interface does look a little windows 3.0. Maybe its an intentional retro look.....nah.

I have also had the posting problem with quotes. It seems on some replies my  answer to a quote is fine and on others I'm included in the actual italicized quote. When I try to space lower it just carries the quote lower...go figure.

There are a few of those simple things here that I still have not gotten onto. I don't have the time nor the skill to change my avatar every 24 hours either.

O, I forgot to answer the question of this topic... I don't think it's cheating. To me this seems the same as hiring a bunch of session musicians to do what I normally do all on my own in Sonar...

Band-In-The Box, is it cheating?

I've actually thought this through a bit more and have finally decided.

Yes it is cheating, uninstall it from all your machines immediately.

Either that or don't ever tell anyone you use it.
