Yes James it does,, butt the difference is when you consume said beverages, it is not a result of boredom and you don't resurrect old threads that had their run nor complain when they are put to rest....

Depending on the delicacy and complexity of the single malt, I would prefer it first I think.  If you're chasing beer, does the quality of the whiskey (within reason) really matter?

If I was necking down some Tennants Lager () like they do here, then I'd agree, may as well go for a supermarket own-brand blended scotch, but I'm thinking a couple of good ales, like an 'Old Crafty Hen' something like that, maybe one with dinner, one after, then a very nice, not too peaty malt about an hour or two later, as a nightcap. I don't regard that as 'chasing' the beer, it's just rounding off a pleasant weekend evening.
