We were fondly remembering my Grandmother and her colourful expressions, this one was a classic and was used to describe Rod Stewart.

Top of the Pops usually brought out the best in her; one of the best was describing the dancing audience as “like a lot of maggots crawling out of a cheese”. In fact my brother and I took to calling the program Maggots from then on.

Excellent!

My mum has a few of those, and yes, TOTP usually brought them out. I remember her describing Alison Moyet as having 'a mouth like a parish oven'

I can recall my granny saying various people were 'as dim as a Toc H lamp', I had to wait for the internet to find out what that meant

She used that one quite a few times!. Dad is a bit of a history buff so I had heard stories of Tubby Clayton and the Toc H so I knew the reference. I few years back I managed to find him a first edition of Clayton's book as Christmas present.

Another one of hers, during widowhood was " I wouldn't have another man if his arse was decked in diamonds"
