Ooof. That was a loooong scary and lonely hour I'll tell ya, boys.

Don't ever leave me again!

:-p

Anyhoo... that was a weird one. So I was poking away at a project and the storm starts rolling in. I almost ALWAYS shutdown my DAW as soon as I hear thunder... especially since I don't have a UPS (just a "surge protecting" power bar which... well I'm usually skeptical about that claim but it is a nice Belkin one). Seeing as how for the past month we've been getting quite a few storms and the power hasn't gone out once so I decided to just keep going today. Sure enough... borko'd in the borkus. So I unplug everything (as I usually do during storms as well but of course AFTER I've properly shut down... lulz) and roll myself over to the laptop which I'm guessing has no intertubeys. Whenever there is an outage my router takes a nap (at least from internetting, sometimes my phone keeps working for a while).

This time though I had enough time to post this thread... then down she went. Da frack? No idea how all that cable shiz works so I'll just chalk it up to gremlins.

So tried to keep myself occupied by practicing some guit parts unplugged, seem to wrote part of a new song and played a bit of Chess Titans on my laptop while it still had juice. I unplugged the adapter from it just in case maybe it might cause the battery to drain (not sure if that's actually a thing but whatever).

Just now I was eating up the last of the lappy juice playing a "troll" match of chess against the computer* and the power came back on. I was all "BOOYA!!! Internetties here I cumz!!!". Launch firefox and then immediately my laptop goes "dead". Confused as hell I'm trying to turn it "on" or wake it up from whatever the hell it was doing.

Then I remembered it was unplugged. Windows decided to shut it down 'cause the battery was dying literally TEN seconds after the power came back on.

Freaky deaky shiz messin' with poor ole Beepsoids noodle bone.

Oh... and puns are the lowest form of humor.

Which simply means "we" are at the top of our game.

At the height of Hurricane Sandy I decided to venture outside, against all official advice, to experience some extreme weather. I ventured down Avenue C in Manhattan and was literally just over a block away from the Con Edison substation on 14th St when a huge transformer explosion happened and knocked out all of the power in downtown Manhattan. Here it is from way over the river. I was right next to this baby, and it almost blew my eardrums off and knocked me right on my ass with an indescribable electric blue/green flash:

Amazingly enough, my FIRST thought as I sat dazed in a huge pool of water in the pitch dark, was "aw man, I left Sonar open back home and I didn't hit save..."

It wasn't until a week later that I was able to fire up my computer again, and by that time I'd totally forgotten about any of the work I'd lost that night. Time is a great healer....
