Equator has a trade-up program until 7/7 for previous D5 owners and I am possibly interested but would like to see if there are any owners of both that might add some insight if the extra $400 would be worth it.

I have two sets of D5's so it might be nice having a set of D5's and D8's if there would be any improvements other than an extended low end from 52Hz to 44Hz. Have searched for freq. curves for the different boundary positions on the D8 but have not found any graphs yet.

Any comments or direction will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Rick

I am still waiting to audition the Equator monitors, but as a rule I have found systems based around an 8 inch driver to sound "better" to me, and I don't think it is just the extension on the low end, it's the way everything just seems to line up better, if that makes sense.

I am in the midst of auditioning new monitors... a pair of Sceptre 8s should be in my hot little hands within the next couple weeks, and after that it will be the D8s. I'll let you know what I find, but I'd think the D8s would provide you with a sense of improvement.

If I had 2 sets of D5's I'd seriously consider it.
I'm using my D5's with a sub & it's working well.  I would imagine the D8's sound great but haven't tried or heard them myself.

I use a sub with the D5's at the desk. It does work out nicely and the D5's offer a clarity that is almost forensic. The image is great and their size make them easy to locate on the ISO stands.

I'm really struggling here as I don't want to spend money to make an existing good situation worse... I'm just a sucker for Sales and Mfg. hype.

At least I have 4 more days to make the decision.

I am still holding out for a sub woofer for the D5's.  It may take them a while but they have already designed the D5's with subwoofer handling so I think it just a matter of time.
If the D8's were available when I bought the D5's, I would have purchased them instead just for the fuller sound.

I placed the order for the D8's, right or wrong, I'll find out sometime soon!

I would have done the same, Rick.  I don't think you will regret it.  In fact, I am going the check my e-mail for that offer.  Sounds good to me.

Kind regards,

Whoa, whoa whoa, Rick!  I just did the math.  If you purchased your D5s for $300 (early purchase or previous offer prior to price increase) you end up paying the same price for the D8s:  $700(D8s)+$300(early D5s) = $1,000 - $300 (return offer) = $700 for the D8 trade-up deal (at the price of losing your D5s) which also equals the current price of the D8s.  If you paid $400 for your D5s then:  $700(D8s)+$400(current price for D5s) = $1,100 - $300 (return offer) = $800 for the D8s trade-up offer (at the price of losing your D5s) which is $100 more than the current cost of the D8s.  That doesn't seem to be a good deal at all.  Just by the D8s and keep both pairs of D5s.

Hmmm.  I think I just bought a pair of d8's for $699 shipped.  Still a better deal than the regular $777...

Thanks for the math lesson!    I have had a house full of relatives/company for a couple of days now so my patience level and cognizance has decreased significantly...
