The updates happen, stuff still works, I can print things...mostly I just ignore it..then again, I'm a gardener...

Lucky you. Almost every win10 update has proved to have exactly the opposite effect here. Perhaps I should contact MS and ask if we can have the gardeners edition ?

I'm actually a programmer, but having to do networking and computer/server maintenance duties (because I'm apparently too old to find a programming job any more!).

To put Windows 10 into gardening terms, one day you're out there mowing on a sit-down tractor then, the next (after an "update"), you're tractor is now a red-wagon with a dull scyth.  Your heavy-duty leather work gloves are now pink plastic with flowers and your radio is no longer tuned to get the footy updates, but talks 24/7 about worthless people like the Kardashians.  Your wheelbarrow, however, is now about twice the size with extra large tires (tyres for you Neanderthal types).  Of course, even once you have everything sorted out, you'll be busy working and your shoes will spontaneously vanish requiring you to... (wait for it...) reboot!

Oh and W10 sucks IMO.

I'm really not looking forward to the day when I am forced down that road.

It's not so bad really. Then again, I never used 7 or 8, went straight from XP.

I concur. However, the more one can get W10 to look and 'feel' like XP or W7 the better in my opinion

I actually prefer 8.1 over all of them.

IMO 7 was just taking Vista back to being more like XP because they knew that they cocked it up and 10 is a hybrid of 7 & 8 that's trying to keep everyone happy, but just looks a complete mess IMO. Don't get me started on every update (that you can't turn off) screwing up the ability to print anything.

It looks like it was designed by committee, which is never a good thing.

I was perfectly happy with 8.1 ...

Ive been happy with them all. Windows 7 pro was £70 which was my first legal OS, Win 8 pro upgrade £30, both upgraded to Win 10 for free.

I know people have problems with W10 Paulo. I was being self-effacing with the gardener comment, meaning that I don't depend on a computer for my business, and I'm hardly a 'power-user'.

That would be quite handy actually. Is there a shortcut?

(yes, through the herbaceous border)

Yeah I know you were, I'm not a power user either - it's not even my pc that has w10 -  I'm just the shmuck who gets lumbered with trying to make the bloody thing work again every time it happens and what worked last time doesn't necessarily work the next time, so it doesn't take long to get old.

As misogynistic as it may sound, I blame the gal that MS put in charge of creating the UI. She was clearly more interested in colors and texture and arrangements and decorations than being loyal to any legacy UI or one that was more functional and productive.
