Just stumbled across this one today, a Swedish (I think) band [correction: they're a US band but the album was recorded in Sweden] called Earthside that calls its style "cinematic rock". Kind of a gentler form of symphonic metal with a lot less grunting.
They don't have a lead singer, so it's mostly instrumental (and that's the best material anyway) with some guest vocalists. Maybe they should look up Nightwish's old singer and see what she's doing these days. That would be epic.

Just bought Djam Karet's latest and Cairo's Say (as mentioned before), but have to add that they are both excellent in their own ways!  Now off to listen to Dave's addition above (can my budget handle more???!  LOL!).

...and, now I have Earthside's album too.  Gee, thanks Dave!

(Actually, I'm not displeased at all.  )

Wonderful song, heartbreaking video, extraordinary closing solo by Guthrie Govan.

Currently in the CD player in the car:
  • A marvellous collection of Jake Thackray's unrecorded and unfinished songs performed by John Watterson. This guy captures every nuance and idiosyncrasy of the man himself to such an extent you get the uncanny feeling you're listening to Jake himself.

  • Excellent 2 CD Big Country best-of compilation. RIP Stuart.

Always liked big country.  Which one is stu?

I've only heard of Chris Poland on his album, but the rest are very good at what they do.  A bit of everything in here.....jazz, funk, prog, rock etc....

I didn't hear any Gangsta Rap...

Guess I'll have to check out more from him!  (I can already see parts of my next paycheck disappearing as usual...)
