i don't doubt your research, jeff...
not at all.
i do like the sound of the yammys, and i would have preferred to spring for the 8's,
but this is all i can afford right now.
using the ARC system for adjusting my room beyond what i've done as far as treatment goes,
i have some issues that the ARC solves to almost flat, in the low end...
and if i am to trust the graph, it is covering my frequency fairly accurately down to about 50hz, which is plenty for me in this room.
so, all in all, i'm happy with the jbls at 5" for now,
i'll upgrade again when i can,
and seriously a\/b those HS8's, which originally were my first choice for upgrade.
Came across this forum post, since I too own the 305', and, personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it. IMHO, the JBL's sounded significantly/slightly better than the HS5-HS7. They sound more "alive" to me, without necessarily being hyped. The Yamaha's sounded very clinical (depends on one's preferences). The HS8 are definitely better (they can get lower and are pretty darn flat), but costs almost 2-3 times (depending on what you get them on sale for) what you can get the 305' for.
The better warranty on the JBL's didn't hurt either.
I'm more than pleased. Also, the KRK's I heard (Rokit 5 G3) sounded muffled.
hey sounded like a blanket was hung in front of them.
LOL. That's exactly how I described the sound. It sounded like someone threw a blanket over them.
