I don't understand. The free studio one does not support vst. So why are you getting Kompelete if it cannot be used inside studio one?

The free version is for students to explore further outside the class room.

Exactly. They can use as a scratchpad of sorts. As students get more advanced, i will remind them they can get artist version with vst add-on at student rate or go with am option like Reaper or even another DAW.

Hi guys.  i know i don't post much anymore.  I still love cakewalk, but work has me using other Daws more.  Recently i built a project studio at a middle school (Bitflipper, you have to stop by one day!) I considered a few DAWS including Cakewalk and even Reaper. I chose to go with Studio One primarily because they offered a free version that is certainly scaled down, but capable of supplementing what we do outside of classroom for students unable to afford a DAW.  No complaints so far.  The stock instruments are ok but the quality of the rompler (Presnce XT) seems on par with Sampletank.  Kinda thin.  I went way under budget and was considering an upgrade to Komplete or a Rompler.  We already have Komplete Select so the upgrade would be discounted.  Is there a better option in the price range of $400 anyone would reccomend?

I'm just waiting for an offer of another burrito, Russel. Be glad to pedal on down your way and see what you've done since we first looked at that empty room.

I don't know how you could go wrong with Komplete, other than perhaps being overwhelmed by everything that's in the bundle. There's certainly something in there for every taste and genre, and I can't think of anything that has a better bang:buck ratio.

Deal!!! I am having some issues with mounting gobos securely. Not a big deal yet since most are not seriously recording yet

Burritos it is. Just give me a ring. Please make it a Saturday, as the traffic between here and there is murderous during the week.

I am another in the Komplete camp. For kids that age there are a lot of tutorials out there on how to get the hip sounds in Massive. Plus Reaktor both as a modular environment and lots of ensembles. Not to mention that Kontakt is an industry standard.

You might think something like Abbey Road 60s drums might not be useful to them, but considering how important samples of 60s drum loops have been in electronic music , that's a lesson already half written.

We received the Abbey Road drums with the Maschine Mikro.  Conrtrary to stereotypes, many producers of pop, EDM, Hip_hop use acoustic drum samples as well as 808 type drums.  I have one kid in the high school program that does very experimental hip-hop and prefers Abbey Road and similar drums.
