I'm getting REALLY frustrated here. I decided this afternoon to try connecting my Yamaha Keyboard up via USB. It took a little while of getting the drivers to work, but eventually I got it working - I could play the keyboard and the soft synths in Sonar would respond.

Then the keyboard died. I figured out it didn't like the power supply I was using.. using that one would turn it on and then immediately off again, but the power supply itself worked with other devices. I got another power supply and turned it on and it worked fine - although it seems all my saved patches and whatnot have erased themselves. No real problem.

However, when I plugged it back into my computer.. suddenly the MIDI input doesn't work. It's showing up there in Sonar, I've got it selected as the MIDI input, into a Soft Synth. There's just no transfer of MIDI information whatsoever. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers many times, restarted. I don't know what else to do. I'm asking here because you guys are always so helpful and there aren't any official Yamaha forums to help me. I don't think this is a Sonar issue in particular.

I'm using Sonar 8.3 on Windows 7 64 bit.

Fixed it - for anyone else with this problem:

I first did a Factory Reset as it seems it had gotten slightly corrupted (some patches didn't work, some names were gibberish). This seems to have occurred by my using a power supply with too much voltage during a thunderstorm. Doh!

Then I had to press Utility and changed the Host Select from MIDI to USB.

Boy are you lucky you did not fry it. One has to be very careful about swapping power supply's. Some are not regulated. Musical gear needs better quality power than a telephone. This is why all manufactures warranty's are void if you do not use there warts.

Hi Morgoe,
I am trying to connect my Yamaha s08 to my macbook.  I have downloaded the software and the computer is recognizing the keyboard but i don't know how to switch the host select from MIDI to USB.  I can't find it in the manual.  I read page 13 which says you should switch it but it doesn't say how to do it.

Thanks,
Tammy
