the other thread all sounds very positive.  Recording the audio while doing screen shots is a nice extra.  I'll have to investigate camtasia, I guess, as I'm not currently able to record on my computer and do screen shots at the same time.  Was going to go the two computer route (use an old one just for audio).
I"m wondering if these are the same D pres that Yamaha uses on their current line of low cost mixers.  Not that that means anything, but they call them D pres on the mixers, as does Steinberg on these units.  Quite honestly, as long as they are clean and have half decent headroom, that's fine.  I'm not currently into the $1500 mic pre at this point and not sure if that will ever happen either.  Something like an ART Pro II for a couple hundred might suit the level I need, just fine as these Steinberg pres might also.

I can get voice with Camtasia but no output from a daw yet. Still working on that.

Update:  I can now get voice and DAW output into Camtasia.  Turns out I used Line Outputs 1 and 2 from the UR-44 into the line in on my computer.  Camtasia recognizes that line in so now it all works well.

So I ended up going with the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4. It'll be here tomorrow, although I won't be setting it up until my new desk gets here... but when I do and I'm all set up I'll report back :-)

I can do screen shots in Sonar (7) only if you do not close it out before saving the clipboard pasted into say "paint", otherwise if you close Sonar out before saving the screen shot it does not work, and you lose it. Why  I do not know.

Otherwise movies I am not sure but there has been Fraps for games and recording the game seen on utube.
Don't know if there are other programs, but it is not freeware.

Hey there. Would love to help any way we can. We do extensive testing on converters, at our sister site gearevu .com
For two channels I am digging the Universal Audio Apollo Twin. The RME stuff is converts phenomenally well.
Getting the most for your money would involve knowing your budget!
