  • Can't load East West Play [SOLVED]

I'm using Sonar Platinum, up to date (23.3.0 Build 51 x64). I have East West Play 5.0.

I can load Play in standalone just fine. I have my iLok in and verified that the license is recognized (through loading instruments in standalone). I can see that the .dll files for Play are in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins and that this folder is specified in my VST settings. Everything seems to be as it should, but:

I've opened a project that uses some EW samples, and Play was loaded into the project when I made it. Now, however, Sonar won't load the sampler. I can't add the sampler back again, or even find any trace of its existence in the plugins window. I've also tried adding Play in a new project without success, so I know it isn't something corrupt about the specific file.

Unfortunately I can't remember exactly when I last used Play, so I'm not sure when this "broke". I have been keeping Sonar pretty much up to date, so I have probably gone through a few small build updates since then. I created the file I'm trying to use in September 2016.

If anybody has any ideas, I'd love to hear them! Thank you so much.

I would try re scanning your plugins in Sonar. If it doesn't show up after that, check to make sure that it's pointing to the correct folder.

Sorry, forgot to mention try closing and re opening Sonar after the rescan.

Search your system for an older version of the Play dll. I had that happen after upgrading Play.

Good point Dan. I had the same issue a while back.

I haven't checked, but I believe Play and iLOK may have both been updated not too far back, and it might be worth making sure you have the maintenance on those up to date.  Perhaps you just need to get those current.

Hey, thank you everybody for the replies!

@Ripwolf, yes, I scanned, re-scanned, checked folder locations, and restarted Sonar (and the computer). Everything was already set properly and didn't get any change there.

@robert_e_bone, iLok is up to date but looks like Play is now up to 5.0.2 and I'm on 5.0.0. I'll give that a try and see what happens.

Dan, I did a search to make sure I had all possible folder locations in the VST settings. But do you mean I should make sure all the .dll files are pointed to, or that I need to delete old ones? I've never deleted any, so if that is somehow preventing it from recognizing the new .dll properly, that could be an issue for me.

Huh. Well, updating to Play 5.0.2 did it, though I can't pretend to understand why.

I still can't open up a window for the old instance of Play in the project, but I can add a new one and reload and define the instruments again.

Thank you!

Sometimes they update things because of Windows updates - perhaps something along those lines?  OR, maybe I have no idea?  (But am super happy you are back up and grooving)
